The Day of Misrule is a holiday in Alba celebrated on the winter solstice. It may be celebrated by having the sevants pretend to rule over the lords and ladies. A junior member of a household will be selected to serve as Lord or Lady of Misrule.
In Kushiel's Justice, Imriel de la Courcel celebrated the Day of Misrule at Clunderry. Hoel, the cook's apprentice, was the Lord of Misrule. He commanded everyone to crossdress. The day ended in a feast that had been prepared the day before by the servants.
