Kushiel's Avatar

Valere L'Envers is the only daughter of Barquiel L'Envers. She is married to Sinaddan-Shamabarsin, the Khalif of Khebbel-im-Akkad's son. She and Sinaddan have three sons. After her marriage, she is called the Lugalin Valere-Shamabarsin.

Valere favors her father in appearance. She is tall and long-limbed. Her hair is golden blonde and she has the purple eyes of House L'Envers.

Valere accompanied her father to Khebbel-im-Akkad when he was appointed ambassador. When Barquiel arranged a match between her and Sinaddan, she accepted. This sealed the alliance between Terre d'Ange and Khebbel-im-Akkad. Sinaddan built her a private D'Angeline garden so she would not feel homesick.

In Kushiel's Avatar, Phedre sought Valere's aid in her search for Imriel. Valere initially refused to aid them due to Drujan and because she considered Imriel a danger to the realm. Phedre used the sacred password of House L'Envers to have her ask Sinaddan for aid. Valere was not at all pleased by this, but she obeyed the password and asked Sinaddan. Sinaddan refused to send an army into Drujan, but he provided them with a guide.

Valere forgave Phedre for abusing the password and gave her a coat. She wished that Phedre was not insistent on going into certain death to find the son of a traitor. When they returned from Drujan with Imriel in tow, Valere was displeased that he'd been found. Believing Imriel to be a threat to her house and to Terre d'Ange, she tried to have him assassinated. These attempts failed. It is unknown if she acted alone or on Barquiel's orders.
